Welcome to the online nomination portal for the 2023 America's Transportation Awards! Now in its 16th year, the competition seeks to showcase all the tremendous work done by state departments of transportation each year, bettering their communities.

This year, we are looking for projects in the following categories:

  • Quality of Life/Community Development
  • Best Use of Technology & Innovation
  • Operations Excellence

All nominated projects will first compete on a regional level against projects of their own size. Small projects are those that cost less than $25 million to produce, medium projects cost between $25 million and $200 million, and large projects cost more than $200 million. After all regional meetings have taken place and all regional winners have been named, the three projects scoring the highest in each region will be named America's Top 12 and compete for the Grand Prize, selected by an independent panel of transportation industry judges, and the People's Choice Award, selected by the public during online voting. The winners of those two prizes each take home a $10,000 check to give to the charity or scholarship of their choosing.

Only state DOTs are eligible to compete and win. States may submit up to three projects (though we suggest not in the same category AND size breakdown). Judges are looking for a story on how the projects bettered the lives of people using that transportation system, so the most successful projects keep the technical engineering speak to a minimum.

Please reach out to AASHTO if you have any questions. You can learn more about the competition at https://americastransportationawards.org/. The deadline for all nominations is Friday, April 14 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
